PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Network design and automation engineer is responsible for conversion of business requirements into technical network designs aligned to enterprise strategies and standards.  The candidate is responsible for supporting the development and deployment of network designs with adherence to technical and solution standards. 

The successful candidate will have broad experience within WAN, LAN and Network Security technologies, including a solid background in network hardware solutions, operating systems and network architectures, and back-up services and technologies.

The candidate must be able to transform complex problems and abstract concepts into executable technology solutions.  The incumbent must have large enterprise experience with the ability to document engineered solution.  This is a global role within the Information Technology Network Engineering Organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES (Essential Functions)*

  • Translate, recommend, and approve technical platforms and solutions that are consistent with business and Information System’s technology vision
  • Articulate & design solutions that solve network problems through innovation and automation.
  • Work with managed service providers to develop build standards and ensure designs and engineering align with compliance mandates
  • Prepare WAN network solution standards with appropriate documentation, templates, use cases and acceptance testing
  • Manage the development of network centric policies and configurations to include but not limited to Network Infrastructure Deployment, Quality of Service development and Deployment Documentation Review
  • Develop solutions and ensure that the network designs meet the functional, performance, and technical operations requirements and are consistent with SDLC Principles and the Dev/Ops Model.
  • Work with the other technical teams to align network designs so they can be deployed to meet both IT and Business Units requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to identify and translate system requirements into executable network designs.
  • Experience using automation and scripting tools, such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet and the ability to translate this knowledge into executable scripts to assist in Network Automation.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python and Perl.
  • Involved in new technologies evaluation and helping the team in adapting to the new technologies
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for spending and initiatives
  • Establish and maintain regular communications with Architecture and Engineering as well as Operations Functions, Supplier Management and Vendors regarding pertinent WAN network infrastructure changes and improvement requirements
  • Work with the managed service providers to develop and implement all delivery policies, practices, and procedures
  • Assist in establishing the guidelines and requirements for the provisioning services, including project and engineering support services
  • Provide update session with peers and suppliers regarding changes in standards

EDUCATION/Experience

Education and/or additional training

  • S./ B.S. Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience with Wide Area Network infrastructure components including circuits, Internet, routing, backbone, cloud based network designs, load balancing.
  • Knowledge and/or Certification on products from Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Bluecoat, Riverbed, F5 and Palo Alto Networks.
  • Knowledge of Linux or UNIX environments with a good understanding of networking concepts
  • Experience working on IP networking technologies and extensive experience in the application of routing protocols. (OSPF, BGP)
  • Eight plus years managing enterprise wide area network infrastructure technology
