Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer

 Summary of Responsibilities:

A Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer in the Enterprise Data Services team specializing in Microsoft BI stack /Tableau will provide support on projects including designing, building, and maintaining metadata models, complex reporting, and cube solutions. This position will be responsible for working closely with business stakeholders to discover and translate their BI needs into actionable requirements and report design and ensuring deliverable commitments are met. This role requires a broad range of skills and the ability to step in to different roles depending on the size and scope of the project.
The candidate will need to collaborate with business and technology leaders to identify key business requirements to enable enterprise BI/Performance Management strategy. Will ensure technical quality, accuracy, thoroughness, efficiency and adherence to timelines during the delivery of the solutions.

Essential Functions:

• Lead the development of advanced BI applications using the MS BI stack/Tableau, T-SQL/stored procedures as well as MDX/DAX. The MS BI expert should have a good understanding of the SSAS architecture and be able to provide insight into best practices and advanced techniques.
• Work with business teams to gain a good understanding of their business, analytical, and reporting needs, including the identification of critical metrics and KPIs
• Partner closely with cross-function peers and leaders to deliver reporting projects that solve business requirements
• Build and prototype dashboards to provide insights into the operations of a business function.
• Develop rich interactive visualizations integrating various reporting components from multiple data sources
• Leverage strong analytical and problem solving skills to identify and deliver actionable insights to relevant decision makers
• Design and develop Business Intelligence solutions using multidimensional cubes MOLAP and Tabular Models
• Provide training and expertise to business users and other stakeholders on Self-service BI
• Proficient building more complex calculations and presentations
• Work closely with the Data Architecture team and provide technical design recommendations on the data mart structures which support analytical applications
• Provide and own the technical details for implementation and maturing of BI solutions
• Design functional specs for BI front end applications including dash boards and reporting, considering appropriate data flow and capture
• Must be able to routinely work with little or no supervision.
• Perform ad-hoc analysis that helps in understanding business and performance trends. Interpret the results and weave insightful stories to stakeholders.
• Effectively and efficiently handle multiple and shifting priorities.
• Strong understanding of Tableau Architecture and Administration desired
• Provide thought leadership, best practices, solutions that are functionally and technologically sound, and standards required to deliver effective BI solutions to clients.
• Actively participate as an analytics /Business Intelligence advocate and expert to help promote the development of a data driven culture.
• Ability to influence technical tradeoffs with client stakeholders
• Participate in rotation of on-call support.
• Identify problem trends and corrective actions and documenting these through modification of existing best practices guidelines.
• Provide expertise and guidance to other developers in the use of the toolset.
• Develop and enhance relationship between developers and customers through good practices of Customer Service.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in CS or MIS or equivalent experience in related roles.
• Minimum of 8+ years of experience in reporting and analytics. 3+ years of experience working with Business Intelligence, Analytics and\or Data Warehousing technologies
• 3+ years’ experience designing and developing dashboards using Tableau Desktop for various organizational metrics and indicators using best practices and industry standards.
• 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server database development (TSQL) experience
• Expert level skills in building highly used & adopted custom reports and dashboards
• Expert level skills in Schema design and Dimensional data modeling
• Expert level ability to analyze data to identify deliverables, gaps and inconsistencies
• Experience working as an administrator of Tableau Server or other self-service reporting tool desired.
• Experience in the maintenance and scheduling of Tableau Data Extracts using Tableau Server and the Tableau Command Utility
• Detail oriented, uses sound judgment, and is proactive and self-motivated.
• Requires a complete understanding of the business intelligence development life cycle including the ability to conduct interviews and gather the needs for desired outcomes for the BI solutions being built.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative to contribute beyond basic responsibilities along with the ability to effectively present to the target audience.
